When it comes to diets, the most important thing to see is the scales dropping in numbers. However, there are times that you will go weeks without losing weight, even if you are on popular plans like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers Online and are following them religiously.
The problem is that after a while the body gets used to the diet and will start to counter itself so that it stops losing weight. This will be in a way to lower the amount of calories that are being burned to match the calories that you are eating or could be because it has gotten used to the exercise that you are doing.
It is important not to worry too much about this. It does not mean that you are never going to lose weight again; it means that you need to look at what you are eating to kick-start your body back into losing weight. You will not need to lower the amount of calories that you are eating even more, so you do not need to worry about that.
Actually, there are times that you will need to increase the amount of calories one week. This does not mean that you will put on weight; it just helps to shock your body and become confused over what it is supposed to be doing. Your body’s metabolic rate will start to increase because it will think that you are actually back to eating more calories.
You may also need to increase or change the type of exercise that you are doing. Your body will get used to the same program over and over again so you will need to change it slightly. Adding more weight to your weight training will help or adding that extra sprint to your interval training. You should never stay in your comfort zone when you have reached a weight loss plateau because you will never get out of it.
Your meeting leader or coach will also be able to help with getting you back on track and there may be other tips that you can find out from the online forums and the community. This could be to switch the menu that you are on or to start looking at other ways to measure your weight loss. There are times that the scales will remain the same but your body shape will still be changing; consider taking measurements of your chest, waist and hips to determine whether you have actually dropped a dress size.
Do not becoming disheartened when you find that you have not lost weight for a number of weeks. This does not mean that the plan is not working; it just means that your body has gotten used to it and you need to change something.
